NTIC and NMC are working hard to instill a passion of mathematics in the hearts of students. They are not, however, the only ones who have branded this fantastic product; we owe this festival to thousands of students, professors, and parents from around Nigeria who are giving their time and passion to it. We sincerely thank everyone who participates in and supports this tournament. Thank you very much.

Competition Stages and Entry Procedures:
1st Stage (State Level): The yearly competition’s first stage takes place simultaneously in 36 states across the country, including the FCT. This competition is open to all students in Primary 5&6 and JSS-3 (New) from public and private primary schools.

There is no restriction to the number of students who can take the exam at a given school.

To the exam hall, each participant must bring a copy of the Examination Card that has been entirely filled out (a detached copy from the registration form sold by NTIC and NMC officers or other responsible people from schools or ministries procured at N2, 000).

RULES FOR THE 19TH ANMC:

  • Each state will have one exam center (Lagos will have five exam centers).
  • Each exam center may have a maximum of 200 students. Due to Pandemic precautions, Abuja may only be able to accept 300 pupils.
  • Schools may enter their top three students in the first round. There shall be no more than three students in any school.
  • Registration will take place on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registrations will be closed either after each center’s 200 goals are met or one week before the first round exam date, depending on which comes first.
  • On the day of the exam or at the exam center for the first round of the 19th ANMC, no new registrations will be allowed. All registrations must be completed before the registration deadline or the 200 milestones outlined in the rules (iv and v above).
  • The second round will be divided into two zones (North Zone: Kano State and South Zone: Abuja State).
  • The first 20 eligible students from the 19th ANMC’s 1st Round will be invited to the 2nd Round.
  • State coordinators can sell you an Ix-Exam Card (at N2000).
  • Our representatives would not make any initial visits to the schools, but state registration coordinators would be assigned to send posters and handbills. The 19th ANMC will be promoted using social media.
  • Students are expected to wear their school uniforms to the exam.
  • You can acquire information about the exam locations from any of our school branches, or you can contact an NMC or Ministry of Education officer in your state.
  • Pupils will be requested to use only pencils to shade the necessary information and their replies into answer papers provided at the exam center. The pupils may not be utilized to shade the answers and relevant information adequately since the answer sheets are in optic format. As a result, we ask for instructors’ and parents’ help in teaching children how to shade properly into the optic forms. Please see the sample shading on page 8 of this guide. The rationale for using the Uncommon optic forms is to be able to mark the sheets and give the results in the quickest time possible, even though over 40,000 students are competing.

NTIC & NMC 19th Edition Annual National Mathematics Competition

After the first step, we plan to finish marking the scripts within a month.
Please keep in mind that the results will only be announced on the school’s official website (www.ntic.edu.ng)
After the state level, the results for each state will be released on the internet 30 days later.

2nd Level (Final Level): Each state’s top five winners will advance to the final stage.

Although the winners will be contacted by phone (at the number provided on the examination form) to advise them of the final stage, it is the obligation of the winners to check and learn about the results as soon as possible via our website.

If a winner is unable to attend the final stage for any reason, he or she cannot accept the prize.

However, he or she will still receive his or her well-deserved reward from the first step.

For the second step, all qualified pupils must bring a birth certificate and a letter of identification from their school.

The final stage will take place in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Ogun, among other places. The following is a list of the states and centers:

HOW DO I DETERMINE A PARTICIPANT’S SCORE?

The following formula is used to compute a participant’s score:
Rough Score divided by 2 = (200 – Max Rough Score + Rough Score)

Rough Score = A x Algebra Coef + G x Geometry Coef + Apt x Apt Coef

The letters A, G, and Apt denote the participant’s number of correct answers in Algebra, Geometry, and Aptitude, respectively.

That is, the Rough Score is calculated by multiplying the number of right answers in Algebra, Geometry, and Aptitude by the section’s coefficients and then adding them together.

In each component (Algebra, Geometry, and Aptitude), the coefficients are determined as follows:

The section coefficient is the number of questions divided by the general average.

The General Averages in each section in the 14th edition of the tournament, for example, were as follows:

Over a period of 35 days, the algebra average was 17.28.

Over a 15-day period, the geometry average was 5.95.

Over 25 years, the average aptitude score was 9.47.
The following is how coefficients are calculated based on this:

The section coefficient is equal to the number of questions divided by the overall average.

Geometry Coefficient = 15/5.95 = 2.522

Aptitude Coefficient = 25/9.4 = 2.6401

Consider the following scenario: Assume a participant received 26 accurate Algebra answers, 13 correct Geometry answers, and 14 correct Aptitude answers. The rough score will be calculated as follows: 26 2.0255 + 13 2.522 + 14 2.6401 = 122.41 (Approximately)

Finally, divide (200 – 173 + 122.41) by 2 to get 74.70.

PROPER ANSWER SHEET SHADING (OPTIC FORM):
The pupils are expected to shade correctly in order to achieve quick and accurate outcomes.

We’ve noticed that most pupils aren’t used to shading optic forms based on our experience.

Even after being lectured on proper shading by their invigilators, many of them continue to shade incorrectly.

This difficulty has caused delays in the release of results.

As a result, we will use an updated version of the optic forms in this edition, allowing us to mark and release the results as quickly as feasible.

However, we continue to ask teachers and parents for assistance in teaching students how to shade correctly before the exam.
On the optic form, you’ll find a SAMPLE of appropriate shading. Teachers and parents are asked to instruct students on suitable shading techniques.

We do not accept any responsibility for incorrect shading.

According on how they shaded, the students will receive the results.

It’s worth noting that if a student colors more than one response in a line, his answer is considered incorrect.

If he changes his mind about one of his responses, he should use a soft eraser to erase the prior one before marking the new one.

Machines are evaluating the optical forms.

As a result, students should be aware that if they use biros instead of pencils, shade more than one response for each question, or do not make adequate shading, the machine will be unable to read their results.
All pupils are encouraged to practice shading on www.ntic.edu.ng if they choose.
